Three children were killed and eight others injured by a lightning strike while picking nuts in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj.

This incident happened around 11:00 am on Thursday (May 19). 

The deceased have been identified as Tauhida, 11, daughter of Abdul Alim of Sundarpahari village in Badaghat union of the upazila, Ripa, 12, daughter of Fazr Rahman of the same village and Amirul, 11, son of Abdul Aziz. 

Severely injured Hobi Rahman was sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital while others were given first aid at the Upazila Health Complex.

According to police, about 11 people went to the field of the village this morning to pick nuts. At one stage of picking nuts, a thunderbolt struck on them, leaving the three children dead.
