KHAGRACHHARI: Rival tribal groups fought a gunfight at the backwoods Dangamara village in Dighinala upazila on Saturday morning, leaving two dead, locals said.

The deceased were identified as Barsha Chakma, 26, son of Longja Chakma of Chakchhara union, and Sushil Tripura alias Notun, 28, son of Jardan Tripura of Jamtoli Union.

Police and local sources said it was a fratricidal clash between two rival groups of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS). Both the dead were members of the reformist group in the mainline PCJSS led by its supremo Santu Larma.

On information, army and police contingents rushed to the scene.

Dighinala thana OC Subhash Chandra Paul told banglanews24.com.bd, “We have heard the news, but the number of the dead and injured couldn’t be confirmed immediately. It takes time to reach the spot.”

Local people, however, said the rival groups started trading gunshots at about 5am over their bid to establish supremacy on the area and the sharing of toll money that left the two dead.
