Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a person with 17 gold bars weighing 1.985kg in Sharsha boarder area at Jashore on Friday (August 19).

The arrestee was identified as Montaj Hossain (45), hails from Benapole, of Putkhali village of Port police station.

Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said acting on a tip off, a BGB team conducted a drive and arrested Montaj today and recovered 17 gold bars worth Tk 1 crore 70 lakh.

However, the smuggler along with the gold has been handed over to Sharsha police station, the BGB official added.
