A man was allegedly beaten by a police officer after he had tried to report the attempted rape of his 5-year-old daughter in Manikganj on Sunday (August 21).

The officer-on-duty Sub-Inspector Arif Hossain, has been dismissed after the incident.

According to the victim’s father on Jul 20, Awami League leader of the upazila Mannan Khan’s brother Rajjab Khan attempted to rape his daughter and that was seen by the child’s grandmother.

However, victim’s father lives in Dhaka with his wife for job purpose, and his daughter lives with her grandmother in Shibaloy.

The victim’s father said SI Arif listened to me about the incident, but he did not believe it. At one point in their conversation, he grabbed him by his shirt collar, dragged him to another room and beat him with his hands, kicked him and hit him in the stomach with a stick. The man was injured on his head, hands, and other parts of his body.

Immediately after this incident, the family members rushed him with the help of local people to Manikganj Sadar Hospital.

District Additional Superintendent of Police Nurjahan Labni confirmed the dismissal of SI Arif.

She said that Arif was closed and connected to the police line.

ASP assured the family that both the rape attempt and the police assault would be investigated.
