Shibir violence kills 3 in 2 dists

DHAKA: At least three people were killed at Feni town and Gazipur Sadar in separate incidents on Tuesday night.

In Feni: A Chhatra Shibir man was killed in a clash with police as government set to execute Jamaat leader Quader Mollah.

The deceased Shibir activist is Salman, 22.

Sources said Jamaat-Shibir activists blockaded Comilla Old Bus Stand area at around 10:20pm hearing Quader Mollah’s execution news. When police tried to drive away them, they blasted a petrol bomb at police pick up van and torched the car.

At one stage, Jamaat-Shibir men locked into clash with police, leaving one Shibir activist shot injured.

Injured was rushed to a local hospital where on duty doctor declared him dead.

However, additional police super Shamsul Alam Sarkar said Salman was killed by explosive blasting.

In Gazipur: A mother and her seven years old daughter were burnt to death as Shibir activists torched a covered van at Bhogra bypass road of under sadar upazila around 10:15pm.

Eyewitness said a group of Shibir men torched a covered van in the area, leaving the mother-child burnt to death on the spot and injured two others including police.

Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately after the incident.
