NEW YORK: Committee on commerce, science and transportation of Senate, the upper house of US Congress, expressed deep concern over arise of religious militancy in Bangladesh.

The expression of concern came out through accepting five proposals in a hearing at the senate committee placed titled Resolution on Bangladesh affairs SRES 318 at 2:30pm Wednesday (NY time).

Senate committee said ‘enmity’ between ruling Awami League and main opposition BNP is disrupting the country from performing important task to the nation.

The committee gave emphasis on fruitful dialogues to hold a peaceful and participatory election.

Mentioning the recent visit to Bangladesh by United Nations’ assistant secretary general for political affairs Oscar Fernández Taranco, the participators of the hearing said that the dialogue should be more effective and far-reaching which was started with the negotiation of Taranco.

The five proposals are- (1)parties in Bangladesh have to hold effective dialogue to stop political violence and hold free, fair and credible election, (2) the government has to ensure safety of foreign observers during next election, (3) politicians have to take initiatives to stop all type of violence and the government has to give scope to stage peaceful political movement, (4) the committee expressed concern over ongoing deadlock in the country and support the dialogue between political parties with the initiatives of Taranco and (5) the government has to ensure the Independence of the judiciary.

In the hearing, Senator Darbin said that regional issues such as economy, cop with terrorism, fight with piracy, poverty alleviation, food security, regional stability and natural disaster are important for Bangladesh-US relation.
