Cop jailed for 35-yr for corruption

DHAKA: A Dhaka-3 Special Court on Thursday sentenced 35-year jail, including 5-year rigorous imprisonment, to a railway police official for his involvement with corruption.

The court also acquitted retired Sub-Inspector of Madhabpur Thana Wahed Mia as he was found innocent.

The convicted was identified as Mostafa Kamal, a superintendent of Bangladesh Railway police of Hobiganj circle.

Judge Motahar Hossain passed the lifetime imprisonment (30-year) as per the section 409 of Bangladesh penal code and five years’ rigorous imprisonment as per section 161 and 167 of penal code and section 5(II) of Anti-Corruption Act.

Besides, the court also fined SP Mostafa Kamal Tk 30 lakhs, in default, he has to serve one more year jail.

On November 30, 2003, the owner of SA Paribahan Salah Uddin Ahmad filed a case where he complained in the name of searching, police stopped his private car while he was going to Sylhet with Tk20 lakhs.

Later, the police filed three fake cases against the plaintiff.
