RAB-forest robber gunfight kills 2

MONGLA, KHULNA: Two suspected forest robbers, including chief of Mortuza Bahini and his top aide, were

killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel at Shela River of Sundarbans of the district early Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Mortuza, chief of Mortuza Bahini and his second-in-command Mosharef.

Confirming the matter RAB-8 commanding Officer Sabbir Ahmed told banglanews, “A gunfight between the gang forest robbers and RAB personnel started at 7:50am and continued till 8:25am, leaving the duo shot dead but others managed to flee the scene.

Later, the elite force recovered 15 local and foreign made firearms, five lethal weapons, 39 rounds of bullets and TK 19,672 from the spot.

RAB personnel cordoned the area and conducting the raid, he added.

Mongla police station Officer-in Charge Aminul Islam told banglanews that after receiving from RAB, the bodies would be sent to Bagerhat Hospital morgue.
