DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has congratulated the countrymen for observing a successful hartal, while presiding over the BNP standing committee meeting on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson visited the residence of Mirza Abbas as law enforcers raided in it during Sunday`s dawn to dusk hartal, reports banglanews24.com.bd correspondent.

Afroza Abbas, wife of Mirza Abbas alleged that Rab personnel broke into their house and beat up inmates including her mother-in-law.   

Mirza Abbas, member of the party standing committee, was arrested from a procession at early hours during the strike. Later on, he was shown arrest in a case filed for torching a bus.   
 
The standing committee meeting started at 9:00 pm and lasted for next one hour.
