LAXMIPUR: The daylong hartal, called by BNP, is underway in Ramgati and kamalnagar Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The party is enforcing the lockdown demanding the release of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal organizing secretary Shafiul Bari Babu.

Because of Junior School Certificate and Junior Dakhil Certificate examinations, district BNP withdrew the hartal in Laxmipur town but Ramgati and Komolnagar Upazila units of Swechchaebak Dal are observing the hartal.

Sources said that by setting fire on tree logs and tyres, hartal supporters blocked roads.

Meanwhile, hartal supporters brought out several processions and blasted cocktails in the areas.

District Swechhasebak Dal joint convener Main Uddin Hamim confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Additional police forces were seen patrolling in various important spots to avoid untoward situation, spot accounts said.
