DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday categorically said the people of the country would prevent the one-party polls.
The spokesperson for the party came up with the forewarning while talking to journalists after an emergency meeting at Chairperson’s Gulshan office in the city in the night.
He told journalists that they requested President M Abdul Hamid to resolve the problem through talks.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia called an emergency meeting with top leaders of the 18-party alliance to discuss their next course of action following the meeting with the President.
In the evening, a 20-member delegation led by Khaleda Zia met with the President at Bangabhaban and placed their proposals.
They requested the President to take steps for a dialogue and understanding to resolve the prevailing political crisis.
