The Khulna and Barishal city corporation elections ended amid festivity on Saturday with voting scheduled for tomorrow (June 12).

Polling will be held from 8:00am to 4:00pm through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the polls in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and Barishal City Corporation (BCC).

To control law and order in the electoral area, additional law enforcers, including Police, RAB, BGB, Ansar-VDP and APBN, have been deployed.

In Khulna City Corporation, there are five mayoral candidates, 136 councillor candidates in 31 wards and 39 reserve councillor candidates contesting.

A total of 535,529 voters who will exercise their voting rights in the Khulna City Corporation election -- 266,696 of the voters are female.

Voting will be held in 1,732 voting booths in 289 polling centres in Khulna.

The EC already installed some 2,310 CCTV cameras to constantly monitor the polling centres.

In Barishal, activists and candidates have been going door to door to beg votes on the last day of electioneering.

A total of 106 polling centres, out of 126, in Barishal City Corporation area have been marked as ‘risky’.  

Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) commissioner Saiful Islam on Saturday disclosed this information at a press conference at his office.
