Former state minister and BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, is set to return to Bangladesh from India as he received a travel pass from the government.

The high commission of Bangladesh in Guwahati confirmed the matter on Tuesday (June 13). 

Salahuddin Ahmed received the travel pass late on Monday (June 12). 

The Former state minister said Salahuddin Ahmed will travel to Bangladesh after completing his medical treatments in India, where he is currently residing.

He also said that there is no obstacle to returning to the country after getting the travel pass. But the Indian government has some rules. He has to complete some formal procedures including court papers.

Earlier on March 10, 2015, Salahuddin Ahmed went missing from Uttara in Dhaka.

Later, he was rescued by local police in Shillong, Meghalaya after 62 days of his disappearance.

At that time the Indian police said that they arrested Salahuddin Ahmed after receiving calls from local people.

Later, this BNP leader was made an accused of illegal trespassing.

Earlier on March 1, 2023, a Shillong judge court in India upheld a magistrate court’s verdict that acquitted BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed in a case filed against him over trespassing into India in 2015.

The judge court also asked the Indian government to take necessary steps to send him back to Bangladesh.
