SYLHET: Opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance called a daylong hartal (shutdown) in the city and district for Wednesday protesting filing fake case against the party leaders.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sylhet city president MA Haque, also 18-party alliance convener, asked all leaders and activists to stay in streets to observe the hartal.

Earlier, 18-party alliance announced the dawn-to-dusk hartal on Saturday after a procession demanding withdrawal of false cases against BNP city general secretary Abdul Kaium Jalaly Ponky and immediate release of city Jamaat Ameer Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubaier.
