A group of miscreants set fire to the district Awami League office in Habiganj on Friday (August 2) afternoon.

Around 4:30 pm, tension arose when the leaders and workers of Awami League (AL) and allied organizations took a position in front of the party office on Town Hall Road.

Later, fire was set to the party office during a demonstration by the anti-discrimination student movement demanding justice for the killed and wounded in recent violence and the release of those arrested during the protests. 

According to eyewitnesses, clashes broke out between students, the locals and law enforcers after the Friday prayers. 

In this incident, at least 50 people were injured on both sides.
