BNP-Jamaat involve in supplying arms

DHAKA: Sajib Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, commented that the BNP and Jamaat have been directly involved in supplying terrorists with weapons.

“It is astounding that the then BNP-Jamaat Government itself was smuggling huge quantities of weapons into the country. These are not the actions of legitimate political parties. These are the actions of terrorist organizations,” he added.

Joy came up with the observation in a status update on social network site, Facebook at 11pm Friday.

The status update reads as below--

“BNP and Jamaat Ministers have been sentenced in 2004 massive arms smuggling seizure. 10 truckloads of weapons including thousands of rocket launchers, rockets, grenades, machine guns, assault rifles and ammunition were seized while being unloaded at a fertilizer factory owned and operated by the Ministry of Industries. The Minister for Industries at the time was Jamaat’s Motiur Rahman Nizami. Intelligence and law enforcement officials under the Home Ministry were supervising the unloading in person. The Home Minister at the time was BNP’s Lutfozzaman Babar. Both Ministers and all law enforcement officials involved including the intelligence chief have been convicted and sentenced.

This has only been possible because of the Awami League Government. We have stopped terrorism completely during our term. It has taken nine years but we have finally achieved convictions and sentences in one of the largest terrorist operations in Bangladesh’s history.

It is shameful that the BNP and Jamaat have been directly involved in supplying terrorists with weapons. It is astounding that the then BNP-Jamaat Government itself was smuggling huge quantities of weapons into the country. These are not the actions of legitimate political parties. These are the actions of terrorist organizations.”
