Jatiya Party (JaPa) has decided not to hold its prescheduled rally and protest march slated today (Nov 2).
A press release was issued in this regard on Friday night.
The release also said that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) had invoked Section 29 of the Metropolitan Police Ordinance, which bans any gatherings, rallies, processions, or demonstrations in and around Pioneer Road, Kakrail, and surrounding areas.
In compliance with this directive, JaPa has chosen to suspend its rally and protest now and will announce its next schedule later.
The rally, originally scheduled for 2 pm in Kakrail, was aimed at protesting the increase in commodity prices and demanding the withdrawal of what the party described as false cases against its leaders, including the chairman and secretary-general.
Besides, an anti-fascist student group had planned a counter-protest in front of the JaPa headquarters on the same day. To prevent potential conflict, the DMP enforced restrictions on public gatherings in the Kakrail area.
