DHAKA: Acting Secretary General of BNP, Mirza Fakhrul, alleged on Monday that Rakib was deliberately eliminated to hide certain unpleasant facts.
The party spokesperson made the remarks after paying tributes at the grave of Ziaur Rahman, founder of BNP, in the afternoon.
The BNP leader called Rakib`s killing a big fiasco. "The government was scared that he would divulge a lot of incriminating information. So he was eliminated."
Mirza Fakhrul held the ruling Awami League responsible for rampant killings and `forced disappearances` in the country. “These killings are akin to genocide,” he insisted.
He urged party leaders and activists to launch a no-holds-barred anti-government movement to force a free and fair poll under a non-party caretaker government.
Fakhrul also criticized the Anti-Corruption Commission and law enforcers for what he called their dismal performance.
Attacking the organizations, he said that ACC and the police machinery are an integral part of the farcical government.
JMB member Rakib, who was snatched and later held on Sunday, was killed in a gunfight between his associates and the police on Monday.
