A Dhaka court today (Feb 9) directed the seizure of tax files belonging to former Health Minister Zahid Maleque and his son Rahat Maleque amid ongoing graft investigations. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC's plea highlighted that a case had been filed against Zahid Maleque under multiple sections, including the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, Money Laundering Prevention Act, and The Prevention of Corruption Act. 

Rahat Maleque is also facing charges under similar sections, along with an additional charge under the Penal Code.

The ACC argued that freezing their tax files is necessary to ensure proper investigation of the case. 

Earlier, on February 6, the same court had ordered the freezing of 28 bank accounts linked to the two men over the corruption allegations.
