Over 100 JP leaders resign, seek public apology

Over 100 leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party (JP) in Chandpur's Matlab South Upazila have resigned from their positions, seeking public apology for supporting what they termed a "fascist" government.

The resignation took place at a community center in the upazila, organized by the local Jatiya Party on Monday (March 17) afternoon.

The resignation letters were signed by DM Alauddin, General Secretary of the local Jatiya Party, Mohsin Sarkar, President of the municipal branch, Babul Faraji, President of the youth committee, Abdul Kader, President of the Nayergaon Union branch, and numerous other leaders from the upazila, municipality, and union levels.

Following the resignation, DM Alauddin addressed the press, explaining the reason for their decision.

He said that the Jatiya Party had supported a fascist government, which he and his political mates felt was wrong.

Alauddin also apologized to the public for their actions, calling it a mistake.

Alauddin mentioned that 90% of the local committee's 151 members had resigned, emphasizing that their support for the government during its rule was a mistake.

The party had never been involved in activities such as enforced disappearances, killings, or robbery, but still supported the government, which they now regret.

He concluded that they would consider joining a new party dedicated to the country's welfare and development.
