A Dhaka court today (April 19) ordered Dr Sumit Saha, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami Swechasebak League, to jail in connection with a vandalism case.

Police produced Dr Saha, also a physician at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), before Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin Ahmed and sought his confinement until the investigation concludes. 

Following the hearing, the court granted the petition.

Dr Saha was arrested on Friday from the BMU area for his alleged role in vandalizing university property during the Anti-Discrimination Movement on August 4, 2024. 

The university filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station on January 14, 2025.
