Ganesh Chandra Roy Shahosh, President of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, has issued a public apology for recent comments that drew criticism from students and activists.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Shahosh admitted his remarks—saying general students "don’t even bother with the basics of politics" and calling the July-August movement "so-called"—were poorly worded and unintentional.
Clarifying his stance, Shahosh said he aimed to criticize the current regime’s failure to foster political engagement, not the students themselves.
“I never meant to question the political awareness of general students—especially those at Dhaka University,” he wrote.
He also expressed regret for referring to the July-August movement as "so-called," acknowledging it as a "careless mistake."
Shahosh concluded by urging constructive political dialogue and reaffirming his commitment to democratic values.
