Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has called on the Chief Adviser to cancel the recommendations made by the Women Reform Commission, claiming that some of the proposals go against the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.
He made the remarks while addressing a party workers’ conference as the chief guest at the Circuit House ground in Mymensingh on Friday (April 25).
The event was organised by the district and city units of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Dr Rahman said those who placed the recommendations do not represent the country's 95 million mothers, and warned that the society will not be allowed to go in the direction the commission aims for.
He also commented on the lack of elected representatives in many local government bodies, saying it is causing public suffering.
Urging the Election Commission to hold local government elections soon, he said this would help people judge the EC's sincerity and capacity. He added that the public will not accept any attempt to favour a particular party in the polls.
