Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia returned to Dhaka this morning (May 6) after spending four months in London for medical treatment.
The former prime minister arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10:30 am aboard an air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar.
She was accompanied by her daughters-in-law, Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Shamila Rahman.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with senior party leaders and hundreds of supporters, gathered at the airport to welcome her. Party activists lined the route from the airport to her residence in Gulshan, waving banners, placards, and portraits of the BNP leader.
Khaleda Zia was driven directly to her home, Firoza, in Gulshan under tight security. Police were deployed along the route to manage the crowd and ensure order.
She departed London’s Heathrow Airport late Monday (Bangladesh time), with a brief stopover in Doha.
BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, her eldest son, accompanied her to the airport in London to bid farewell.
Khaleda Zia had travelled to London on January 8 for advanced medical treatment. Her treatment was overseen by Professor Patrick Kennedy and Professor Jennifer Cross at London Clinic, where she was hospitalized for 17 days before moving to her son’s residence on January 25.
