BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in the country and urged party leaders and activists to stay alert to resist any conspiracies.

Mirza Fakhrul said he is seeing ‘Black Shadow’ on the way to establishing democracy in the country.

He made the remarks through a virtual speech at a meeting organized on Tuesday (May 20) afternoon to mark the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

He said, "We are seeing a black shadow looming over the new possibility that has been created in exchange for the blood of students, to establish a modern Bangladesh free from democracy and fascism. A well-planned attempt has begun to postpone the elections, deprive the people of their rights, and deprive them of the right to vote."

On May 13, Fakhrul went to Bangkok for advanced treatment after developing eye complications.

A day later, he was admitted to the hospital and underwent successful surgery on his left eye. He is currently receiving treatment there. His wife Rahat Ara Begum is also with him.
