DHAKA: Election Commissioner (EC) Mohammad Abdul Mobarak on Sunday criticized Khaleda Zia for her remarks that the EC is “spineless and inefficient”.
“We might be zero but her (Khaleda) party is taking part in the upazila polls under the incumbent EC,” said Mobarak, who is currently performing duties as the chief election commissioner.
The election commissioner came up with the assertion, in response to a query from journalists, at the media centre of Election Commission in the afternoon.
The press briefing was arranged about the fifth phase of fourth upazila polls in the country scheduled to be held on Monday.
In response to another query from journalists, he said they won’t resign from their constitutional position.
He also asked why they participated in the upazila polls if they had no faith on us.
In response to another question about complaining against the Minister of Industry Affairs to the Prime Minister, he said, “Prime Minister is the guardian of all ministers and this is why we have informed her over the matter.”
He also said they took tight security measures, including the army personnel as there were violences.
CEC Mohammad Abdul Mobarak also said they reminded the army personnel about their duty to help in holding peaceful elections.
He also hoped that the fifth phase upazila polls also will be peaceful.
