SIRAJGANJ: The half day hartal, called by upazila unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was observed in Belkuchi upazila of the district on Sunday protesting the killing of its activist.
No pickets or activists of Jamaat were seen on any roads of the upazila during the hartal hours.
Most of the shops were closed but light vehicles, including rickshaw and van were seen plying.
Officer-in-Charge of Belkuchi Thana Abdul Hye told banglanews that no untoward incident was reported during the hartal hours.
He added additional police forces were deployed at various important points of the district to avert any untoward situation.
On April 10, an activist of the party was killed and 11 others were injured in a clash between local Jamaat and Awami League activists at Char Dhulibari village under Belkuchi upazila of the district.
