CHITTAGONG: The daylong hartal, call by Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and three hill districts peacefully Wednesday.
Additional law enforcers including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in the districts to avert untoward situation.
City police additional deputy police commissioner Babul Akter said that no picketer was seen on the street.
On May 12, Port city Jamaat called dawn-to-dusk hartal in greater Chittagong protesting the arrest of city Jamaat Ameer and secretary among 21.
Earlier, law enforcement agency arrested 21 Jamaat men, including port city Jamaat Ameer and former lawmaker ANM Shamsul Islam from a meeting at Dewanbazar Jamaat office in the city on Monday afternoon.
