DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir opined that Bangladesh Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina’s letter to India’s would-be premier Narendra Modi is a farce.
The spokesperson for the party also claimed that comparing herself to Modi, the Bangladesh premier has not only demeaned herself also her country.
Modi was elected by the votes of his people but Hasina was not, he added.
Mirza Fakhrul was addressing a protest rally organized by Jubo Dal, youth wing of the party, of Dhaka City at the National Press Club on Monday.
The rally was organized in protest against killings, forced disappearances and tortures on opposition activists.
He said Modi won people’s mandate while Hasina did not. So, her letter to Modi to work together is a farce.
Pointing to the ruling Awami League, he said they are talking about democracy after killing it.
About country’s elite law enforcer Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the BNP leader said that there are many evidences regarding RAB’s involvements in crimes.
RAB, once, did many laudable works but now they are doing wrong, he said adding, BNP does not think that RAB is now needed for the country.
