DHAKA: The members of parliament staged a bicycle rally on demand of introducing separate lane on roads for the sake of safe cycling.
The rally was started from Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area around 11:00am Thursday.
Former Environment and Forest Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud MP, Nabi Newaj MP, Tipu Sultan MP, Saimur Sarowar Kamal MP, Professor Eyasin MP, Assistant Secretary of ruling Awami League Gias Uddin Ahmed, Akhter Hossain, Syed Kamrul Hasan, Abdul Latif and Abdur Rahman along with young cyclists were present there.
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment and Forests Ministry has organized the rally.
Dr Hasan Mahmud MP, in his inaugural speech, said that we urge the government to introduce a separate lane for the cyclists so that they can ride bicycles safely and reach their desired destinations.
He also said that cycling is cost-effective and healthy for city dwellers.
It would not be a tough task for the government to launch a separate lane for cyclists, he added.
He also hoped that the government would shortly take an initiative in the regard.
