DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, will address a grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on Friday on the occasion of the 65th founding anniversary of her party.
Sources said that the ruling party has chalked out a 3-day program at the udyan from June 25 to celebrate the anniversary.
The program will mark discussions and cultural program at Suhrawardy Udyan, sources added.
Sources said Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy will attend Wednesday’s program as chief guest while the ruling Awami League Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury will join on Thursday.
One of the oldest political parties of the country, Awami League will observe Friday’s program with various programs on Friday in the presence of country’s eminent personalities.
Founded on June 23 in 1949 at the historic Rose Garden in the older part of Dhaka, the party has been playing a pioneering role in all movements for establishing democracy and rights of the people.
The party led the nation in the war of independence in 1971 under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The party is now ruling the country for the second consecutive term.
