DHAKA: After changing the name, from Election Commission Secretariat to Election Commission Bangladesh, the EC has also changed its website address.

The new portal is addressed as www.ec.org.bd.

Sources told banglanews that EC has changed the web address in a bid to introduce itself as an independent organization.

However, EC data management system analyst Kazi Mohammad Ziaul Hoque, through a letter, asked Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL) to change the Election Commission website on Tuesday.

The note said that the previous website address ‘ecs.gov.bd’ suggested that the Election Commission was under government’s direct supervision whereas the reality is EC is now an independent organization.

That is why the Election Commission has replaced the ‘.gov’ with ‘.org’ with leaving ‘s’ the short form of secretariat also.

Earlier in 2013, the organization changed its name.

Election Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mobarak, at that time, sent a note to the Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on March 11 of past year drawing attention to change the organization’s website address after changing EC’s name.
