DHAKA: At least 33 leaders and activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami were detained in nightlong drives in three districts.
Banglanews district correspondents report from Mymensingh, Chittagong and Sirajganj on Monday.
Mymensingh: Police detained 15 leaders and activists of Jamaat’s student front Islami Chhatra Shibir from Sankipara in Mymensingh town.
Kotwali Model Thana assistant police super (ASP) Abdur Rashid confirmed the matter to banglanews.
The detainees were allegedly involved in hurling petrol bombs on Saturday night at Kanchijhuli area of the town, he added.
According to the ASP, a case will be filed soon against the detainees in this connection.
Chittagong: Thirteen leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat were nabbed in the district in allegation of their involvement in violence.
The detainees include 5 from BNP, 7 from Jamaat and one from Shibir.
District additional police super (Special Branch) Mohammad Naimul Hasan told banglanews that the accused were nabbed from Mirsharai, Sitakunda, Patia and Lohagara thanas in several drives from Sunday night to Monday morning.
Sirajganj: Police held five BNP and Jamaat activists from Sirajganj in a nightlong drives, conducted from Sunday night to Monday 11:00am in different parts of the district.
The detainees include 3 from BNP and two from Jamaat.
