BOGRA: Miscreants slaughtered an Awami League (AL) vice-president of Elangi union at Didarpara village of Dhunat Upazila early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Shamsul Haque, 50, son of Mojahar Ali Mandol of the village.

Elangi Union Parishad chairman MA Tarek Helal, also union unit AL president, informed banglanews that Shamsul was vice-president of AL Elangi union unit.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman of Dhunat Thana said police took the body to the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.

The body of Shamsul bore several injury marks, the OC added.

Police suspected that he might have been killed following an arbitration meeting on Sunday over longstanding land dispute between one Azizar Rahman and his son-in-law Masud Rana of Didarpara.
