DHAKA: A Dhaka Court granted interim bail to former lawmaker Tipu Sultan and his wife in a case filed on allegation of killing their sister-in-law Dr Shamarukh Mehjabin.
Vacation bench judge of Metropolitan Session Judges Court Ruhul Amin passed the order when they filed bail plea surrendering before the court.
On November 13, Shamarukh Mahjabin, 26, was found dead at her in-laws house in Dhanmondi on Thursday. She was the wife of Humayun Sultan, son of Khan Tipu Sultan, ex-MP from Jessore-5 constituency.
She was studying FCPS at the Bangladesh Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) after passing MBBS from Dhaka's Holy Family Medical College, where her mother-in-law teaches gynaecology.
The following day, Nurul Islam, father of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin claimed that her in-laws had killed her.
Later, following a petition filed by victim’s father, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha of Dhaka on November 25 ordered the exhumation of the body of Dr Shamarukh for re-autopsy.
On December 4, the body was exhumed from Karbala graveyard of Jessore town and was sent to Jessore 250-bed Hospital morgue after 21-day of her burial for re-autopsy. Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin was re-buried around 4:00pm on same day.
