DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas said Bangladesh is free, but not its people as they are experiencing abductions and killings which took place during the war of liberation.
He made the remark while placing wreaths at Martyred Intellectuals’ Monument at capital’s Mirpur on Sunday morning.
Mirza Abbas said, “The country lacks democracy. We have to revive it as per people’s demand.”
In reaction to the remark “BNP can’t stage movement”, by Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif, Abbas said, “Hanif can say anything as they are members of ruling government and they will do everything to stay in power.”
Later he also threw a question to Hanif whether he (Hanif) meant killings and vandalism as movement.
“BNP will not do so as it believes in democracy,” he added.
