Martyred intellectuals’ dreams fade away

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Sunday blamed the incumbent Awami League government as the dreams of martyred intellectuals faded away.

He was talking to the journalists after placing wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in city’s Mirpur area.

Fakhrul also said the dreams, for which intellectuals sacrificed their lives in 1971, have not been met yet.

The martyred intellectuals’ dreams disappeared as ruling Awami League (AL) killed the country’s democracy by torturing and oppressing the opposition people, patronizing terrorism and corruption, and looting assets of the state.

In response to AL general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif’s comment “Opposition movement will not be successful” the BNP leader said, “We don’t bother anyone’s comment. The movement that began under BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s leadership for revival of the democracy will be successful. BNP will not return home until its desired goal is fulfilled.”
