DHAKA: Dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by local units of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student affiliate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), had been observed in 14 districts, including the capital, on Monday.

The districts are Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Tangail, Narsingdi, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Jamalpur and Netrokona.

The strike, which started at 6:00am, continued till 6:00pm of the day amid the BNP called nationwide indefinite blockade, said banglanews correspondents from respective districts.

The student wing of BNP declared the hartal protesting confinement of Khaleda Zia and detaining BNP top leaders.

The strike, however, observed without any major untoward incident except vandalizing a truck in Jamalpur’s Islampur in the noon.

On the other hand, the local units of BNP have also declared another daylong hartal for Tuesday in Gazipur, Mymensingh, Noakhali, Sunamganj and Chapainawabganj.
