MAGURA: A local BNP leader was shot to death in a clash with law enforcers in Simakhali area under Shalilkha upazila of the district on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Moshiur Rahman, general secretary of Shotokhali union unit of BNP.

Police sources said that local BNP leaders and activists put a bar on Magura-Jessore road in the area supporting blockade.

On information, Shalikha Thana police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

However, the blockaders hurled several petrol bombs and cocktails targeting at the law enforcers, leaving at least five police personnel injured.

At on stage, in a counter chase, police opened fire to disperse the blockaders.

Moshiur received bullet injury in the incident. He was rushed to Magura Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Magura Assistant Police Superintendent Sudarshan Kumar Roy confirmed the matter to banglanews.
