DHAKA: People from different walks of life including artists, freedom fighters, teachers, physicians and intellectuals staged a human chain at Kamal Atartuk Avenue in city’s Gulshan area in protest against burning people to death in the name of political movement.
Later, a four-member team, with a list of 54 burn-victims died in petrol bombs attacks during nationwide blockade and hartals, approached to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s office.
Being obstructed by police, the team hanged the list from a tree, opposite side of the Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office, and paid tribute to burn victims by placing floral wreaths.
During the time, eminent cultural personality Pijush Bandyopadhyay, also a member of the team, talked to a media wing officer of the BNP chief.
Pijush Bandyopadhyay quoted the officer as saying “You (the artist delegation) did not show any sympathy to the 20-party leaders-activists who were injured, succumbed to injuries during ongoing violence and undergoing treatment at Pangu Hospital”.
The allegation is incorrect, Pijush, however, claimed.
