DHAKA: The pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers ‘Blue Panel' under the banner of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel (JAOP) swept the Dhaka Bar Association (DBA) election 2015-16, the second consecutive terms.
Out of 25 posts 'Blue Panel' won 20posts, including president and general secretary, while Awami League-backed lawyers' ' White Panel' under the banner of Sammilita Ainjibi Samanay Parishad (SASP) got two secretarial posts---senior vice-president and treasurer.
M Masud Ahmed Talukder was elected president securing 4,562 votes and defeated his rival Saidur Rahman Manik by 230 votes while green panel’s Aminur Rahman Khan got 4,643 votes. Omar Faruk Faruqui of Blue Panel was elected general secretary (GS) securing 1339 votes and beat his rival M Aiyub Rahman Golam by 586 votes.
Other bearers are Vice-President: Harun Rashid Khan (blue panel) and senor Vice-President: Mosharrof Hossian (white panel), Treasurer: Makbul Hossain (white panel), Senior Assistant General Secretary: Hafizur Rahman Hafiz (Blue Panel) and Assistant General Secretary: Taherul Islam Tawheed (blue panel), Library Secretary: Majedur Rahman Mamun (blue panel), Cultural Secretary: Aklima Akter Alo and Office Secretary: Sheikh Alauddin(blue panel),.
Executive Committee members are Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khandaker (blue), Mohammad Billal Hossain (blue) Mojibur Rahman(blue),Fatima Yeasmin (blue), Mizanur Rahman Mizan (blue), Shahnaj Parvin (blue) Tapo Gopal (white) Mostafa Kamal Khan (blue), Shah Alam, (blue) Mohammad Abul Kashem, (blue), Mohamamd Kaml Hossian (blue) Shafiqul Islam, (blue) Rehana Parvin (blue) Fatematuz Jahura (white) and Lilia Akter Lilly (white).
Advocate SM Altaf Hossain, chief election commissioner of the Dhaka Bar declared the result around 3:30am Saturday.
The voting in the two-day polls of Dhaka Bar Association, country’s largest lawyers’ organization, began on Wednesday morning at Dhaka Bar lawyers’ association auditorium.
However, the BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya (Blue Panel) swept the Dhaka Bar Association elections 2014-15 by bagging 18 posts out of 25, including the president and general secretary posts.
On the other hand, the ruling Awami League-backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad (White Panel) secured only six posts in that elections.
