DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) Dhaka city unit joint secretary Haji Mohammad Selim said he will meet the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also president of the party, to seek her support from the party as mayor candidate.
The lawmaker came up with the assertion in an exclusive interview with banglanews24.com Saturday.
He said that he is ready to quit the post of MP for the mayoral election adding that he wanted to make Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) free from corruption.
He further said he was prepared for the election but he will seek support from his party chief Sheikh Hasina first.
In the 10th national parliament, Haji Selim was elected as an Independent lawmaker as he was not nominated from AL.
On the other hand, Sayeed Khokon, son of former mayor and also AL leader Mohammad Hanif, is also hoping to get support and nomination as DSCC mayor from Awami League.
Earlier on Thursday, Sayeed Khokon and Anisul Haque went Gono Bhaban to respond to a call by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
