Farabi on 10-day remand

DHAKA: A city court on Tuesday placed Farabi Shafiur Rahman on a 10-day remand in blogger Abijit Roy killing case.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order in the afternoon in response to the remand plea of Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Fazlur Rahman.

Earlier on Monday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Farabi from Jatrabari area in the city for his suspected involvement on Avijit murder case.

Later in the evening, he was handed over to the DB police.

In primary investigation, Farabi admitted his guilt of threatening to kill blogger and writer Avijit Roy.

RAB Media Wing officer Mufti Mahmud Khan said “Reviewing the Facebook posts-comments, we found Farabi threatening several times to kill Avijit.”

Earlier on Thursday night (February 26), Avijit Roy, 37, was hacked to death and his wife, Rafida Ahamed Bannya, 34, injured critically by a group of miscreants at TSC intersection of Dhaka University (DU).
