DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday rejected any link between militancy and religions including Islam.
She said, “There is no connection of militancy with not only Islam but other religions. As militants are terrorists, terrorism is their religion. There is no room for the militants on the soil of Bangladesh.”
The premier was addressing a discussion as a chief guest in the city on the occasion of the anniversary of Islamic Foundation.
In her speech, Sheikh Hasina strongly criticized those who carry out sabotages in the name of Islam.
She also criticized BNP-Jamaat alliance for enforcing hartal-blockade across the country during Eid-e-Miladunnabi and Biswa Ijtemam.
The premier alleged that the mission of BNP-Jamaat is to kill people. They killed common people and lawmakers whenever they came to power. They are no longer in power now but still carrying out their massacre using petrol bombs and cocktails, she added.
The PM further said, “I receive death threat everyday. I do not care, because I believe in Allah, my father, mother and family also believed in Allah; whatever will happen, He will do for betterment.”
The premier outlined number of initiatives of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying Awami League (AL) has worked for preaching and spreading Islam whenever it come to power.
She said that Awami League brought the foundation employees under the government allowance and formed Welfare Trust for Imam and Muezzin in 1996.
The initiatives to preach and spread Islam are continuing till date, the premier informed the audiences.
