Khaleda greets nation on Independence Day

DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday greeted people of the country and Bangladeshis expatriates  in abroad on the occasion of the 45th Independence and National Day, to be marked Thursday.

Khaleda conveyed her greetings in a press release, signed by her press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel and sent it to the media in the evening.

In her massage, Khaleda said that the War of Independence in 1971 was a fight for democracy, economic and cultural freedom and ensuring social justice.

Unfortunately, this dream has not been materialized even two and half decades have already been passed. So, overall fight for freedom continues to date, she added.

The BNP chief paid her respect to the martyrs of war and prayed for eternal peace to their departed souls.

However, the nation is all set to celebrate the 45th Independence and National Day on Thursday with a vow to uphold the spirit of the liberation war to build a golden country completing the war crimes trial.

Every year, the March 26 brings the most tragic reminiscence of the history’s blackest episode that heralded a nine-month bloody ordeal from the night following March 25, 1971 in achieving the long-cherished independence on December 16.
