DHAKA: BNP leaders Abdul Awal Mintoo and Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu appealed to the Election Commission (EC) challenging cancelation of their nomination forms for mayoral posts in the upcoming Dhaka City Corporations polls.
Mintoo’s lawyer Ehsanur Rahman and Pintu’s lawyer Aminul Islam, on behalf of their respective clients, filed the appeals separately to Dhaka Deputy Commissioner around 4:30pm.
Earlier on Wednesday, the EC cancelled the nomination papers of the two BNP leaders Abdul for upcoming city elections to be held on April 28.
Returning officers cancelled Pintu’s nomination as he was convicted in much-talked BDR carnage case.
On November 5, 2013, Pintu was awarded life-term imprisonment for their involvement in the BDR carnage in 2009.
Besides, Nomination of Mintoo as mayor candidate of Dhaka North was cancelled in the scrutiny as he was not voter of the area.
Election to Dhaka’s two city corporations is scheduled to be held on April 28. Aspirants can withdraw their candidature till April 9.
