DHAKA: BNP-backed Abdul Awal Mintoo filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the cancelation of his nomination paper for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls.

Mintoo’s lawyer BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon filed the petition in the department concerned of the court on Sunday.

The HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi M Ijarul Haque Akand will hear the writ petition on Monday, said Barrister Mahbub.

In the plea, the BNP-backed candidate sought the HC order to withdraw of the decision of his nomination paper cancelation.

On April 1, Election Commission (EC) canceled the nomination from of BNP-backed mayor aspirant Mintoo due to a procedural flaw in filing his nomination.

He, later on April 2, filed a petition in Dhaka Deputy Commissioner challenging the nomination cancelation but the commissioner rejected his petition after hearing at Divisional Commissioner’s office in city’s Segunbagicha area on April 4.
