Jamaat’s 2-day hartal from Tuesday

DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami announced to enforce a two-day countrywide hartal from Tuesday protesting the Supreme Court order that upheld death penalty of its leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman rejecting his review petition.

According to the press statement sent from Jamaat’s publicity wing around 10:30am, party’s acting Ameer Makbul Ahmad declared the shutdown.

Terming the verdict as ‘government conspiracy to kill Kamaruzzaman’, the press release stated that protesting the verdict and demanding his release, the party will enforce hartal across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.

But ambulance, freezer van, vehicles of hospital and fire services will remain out of purview of the shutdown, the release adds.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Monday upheld the death penalty to war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman rejecting his review petition.

The four-member bench of The appellate division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha pronounced the verdict on the review petition filed challenging the death penalty for the war crimes convict.
