DHAKA: Death row convict war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman has been kept in Dhaka Central Jail from February 18 after the rejection of his appeal in the Supreme Court.
After the announcement of Jamaat assistant secretary general Kamaruzzaman’s verdict on May 9 in 2013 for his crimes against humanity during country’s Liberation War in 1971, he was in the High Security Cell of Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur.
However, he was taken to Dhaka Jail when the hearing on his appeal filed challenging the ICT verdict that awarded him to death penalty, was underway in the Supreme Court.
When contacted, Jailer Nesar Hossain of Dhaka Central Jail on Monday told banglanews that Kamaruzzaman is now fine. The next legal steps will start after getting the copy of the review verdict.
