DHAKA: The High Court on Monday rejected the writ petition filed by Abdul Awal Mintoo, BNP-supported mayoral candidate in the forthcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election, challenging the cancelation of his nomination paper.

The HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Qazi M Ijarul Haque Akand cancelled the writ petition in the noon.

On April 5, Mintoo’s lawyer Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, also the joint secretary general of BNP, filed the writ with the High Court.

On April 1, the returning officer cancelled Mintoo’s nomination paper that he submitted on March 29.

On April 2, Mintoo appealed with Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman against the returning officer’s decision. Zillar Rahman rejected the appeal after holding a hearing at his office on April 4.
